This paper presentation will discuss findings from a study conducted on the role of culture as it relates to violence against women and HIV infection among a diverse sample of African American women. The findings stress: to re-examine community perceptions of HIV, to discuss how to construct and consider class in research, how to translate messages from a cultural perspective to enhance effectiveness, and strategies to improve community education efforts regarding domestic violence and HIV in the Black community.
