The birth of a child is a high risk period for intimate partner violence (IPV). Results from this randomized control trial demonstrate that the Hawaii Healthy Start early childhood home visitation program significantly decreased rates of IPV over a child’s first three years of life. The impact was especially robust for female perpetrated IPV; when IPV was sub-categorized, the program had its greatest impact on female perpetrated physical assaults.
