Description:
This presentation will describe the indigenous practices that primary care physicians in Bengaluru, India employ for gender-based violence assessment and intervention, without having received any training or formal protocols. It will examine how individual knowledge about gender-based violence and attitudes towards patients, professional roles and responsibilities, and internalized social norms affect practice. Finally, demonstrating the variation in practice from physician to physician, the different typologies of practice as they pertain to screening and counseling for gender-based violence will be discussed.
