We present the results of a qualitative analysis of calls made by victims of intimate partner violence with thoughts or acts of self-harm to a crisis hotline in China. We discuss the relationship of their self-harm to their experience of abuse as expressed by victims and the techniques used by hotline operators to counsel victims.
