This presentation focuses on the study of telephone conversations as they unfold in real world settings in a cohort of IPV-involved couples to describe: 1) perpetration events; 2) event precursors and pathways, including modifiable situational factors and chronic aggravating factors across micro and macro levels (e.g., substance abuse at the individual level, communication strategies at the relationship level, and the embodiment of traditional gender roles prescribed by society as macro-level processes); and 3) the aftermath.
